"Actual Books"

Yes, e-books are the latest fad;
I'm not too enthusiastic.
I don't think they'll be regarded
with the same honor as real books.

When reading an actual book,
all of my senses are involved,
that pungent smell of printer's ink,
the rustle as each page is turned.

I won't give up my pleasure in
the texture of a paper page,
a book's heavy weight in my lap,
or my lacy ribbon bookmarks.

I insist upon the real thing --
tooled, leather bound, gilt engraved, or
perhaps a lowly paperback,
I desire a genuine book.

Let progress proceed without me
and let me be called old-fashioned.
I'd rather keep the printed page
and my full pleasure in my books.
